2008 race 6 - Oulton Park PDF Print E-mail

Race two started with Phil Myatt in pole position, complete with pink wheels on the front of the car, and blue wheels on the back. Paul Robertson later explained that these were borrowed from Zoe's car, but personally I think Phil was just showing his soft side. The skies were overcast, it was noticably colder than the first race, and the race meeting was running nearly an hour late after a series of red flag incidents in the other races of the day. The 2CV races were later commended by the circuit commentators for providing close action without the need for the organisers to bring out the red flags!

2008 race 5 - Oulton Park PDF Print E-mail

Despite dire forecasts of rain all weekend, the sun was shining over the picturesque circuit of Oulton Park, as the 2CV championship headed into Cheshire for races 5 and 6.

Most went through qualifying without problem, but Aubrey Brocklebank experienced some battery charging issues and didn't qualify in the second session. Trevor Williams also had reduced running in session 1, completing only 3 laps, and didn't take part in session 2 at all.

2008 race 4 - Pembrey PDF Print E-mail

Race 2 got underway towards the end of the race meeting. The track was a little damp, but conditions were dry. There was a touch of diesel down at Hatchets Hairpin (although some would say it was everywhere!) from the truck races earlier in the day. Pete Cardell-Williams started the race in pole, and Darren Baker didn't make the start - his car coasting to a halt on the green flag lap just past Brooklands.

Gary Byatt and Steve Panas made very good starts, but Pete Cardell-Williams (PCW) was the one leading the pack into Hatchets. Panas and Mark Turner were battling. The order on the 1st lap was PCW, Panas, Turner, Riley, R Hollis, Myatt, Wheeler, Byatt, Fritchley.

2008 race 3 - Pembrey PDF Print E-mail

After a fairly moist outing at Silverstone, rain - not Pete Sparrow, was looking like becoming the dominant force in 2CV racing in 2008! The forecast was pretty bleak as the cars rolled in to Pembrey Circuit on the South coast of Wales.

However, Pete Sparrow set the pace in qualifying with a gap of nearly a second to Matt Riley, with Mark Turner and Christian Callandar/Gary Byatt not far behind.

2008 race 2 - Silverstone PDF Print E-mail

As the 2CVs lined up for race 2, the weather had brightened up a little and the sun was shining down on a previously rain-soaked Silverstone. The track was more-or-less dry, but a bit slippery off the racing line, so some care was still needed.

As the red lights were extinguished and the race began, Pete Sparrow once again moved ahead of the pack and converted his second pole position of the day into the lead of the race. Phil Myatt and Mark Turner were contesting 2nd place, with Turner looking like he had the edge. The cars were 2 abreast around Luffield for nearly all of the pack, looking for all the world like a NASCAR rolling start.
